WHAT IS TABBING?

Tabbing is the act of walking or jogging in combination while carrying weight on your back over a set distance.

This is a low impact exercise taking its roots from military operations.

Tabbing stands for Tactical Advance to Battle other units call this exercise by a few other names, The Royal Marine Cammandos call this yomping, while our bothers and sisters over the pond in the USA call it Rucking.

Here in the UK the civilian term Hiking is a form of Tabbing. Whether you are in the mountains or in an urban environment, if you are walking, or jogging with weight on your back, you are tabbing.

You've probably spent time Tabbing - when traveling, on holidays, sightseeing, carrying books to school, or on your commute to work. Carrying weight is a necessary part of life, and as it turns out, we as humans are naturally quite good at it.

CAN ANYONE DO IT????

YES, it is extremely simple, and requires minimal gear. Our goal is to gradually increase your ability to cover distance while carrying weight.

TABBING IS AN OUTDOOR ACTIVITY
Being outside is a basic human requirement… Engaging in outdoor exercise like tabbing, offers several health benefits.

Here are a few:

  1. Increased Vitamin D:  Exercising outdoors exposes you to natural sunlight, which helps your body produce vitamin D. Sufficient vitamin D levels are important for bone health, immune function, and overall well-being.
  2. Improved Mental Health: Outdoor exercise has a positive impact on mental well-being. Being surrounded by nature and fresh air can reduce stress, boost mood, alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety, and enhance overall mental clarity and focus.
  3. Enhanced Physical Fitness: Tabbing often involve varied terrains, such as hills, trails, or uneven surfaces. This challenges your body in different ways, improving balance, coordination, and strength. Additionally, outdoor activities like hiking/tabbing, provide cardiovascular benefits and promote endurance.
  4. Exposure to Nature: Spending time in natural environments during exercise has been linked to improved concentration, reduced mental fatigue, and increased feelings of vitality. Being surrounded by greenery, trees, and wildlife can provide a sense of tranquility and rejuvenation.
  5. Increased Motivation: tabbing/hiking can be more enjoyable and motivating than indoor workouts. The changing scenery and the opportunity to explore new places can make exercise feel like an adventure, keeping you engaged and motivated to continue your fitness routine.
  6. Fresh Air and Oxygen Intake: Exercising outdoors exposes you to fresh air, which may be cleaner and contain more oxygen than indoor environments. Deep breathing in fresh air can improve lung capacity, oxygenate your blood, and enhance overall respiratory health.
  7. Social Interaction: Outdoor exercise often allows for social interaction, when joining our group activity can enhance your social connections, build a support network, and contribute to overall mental well-being.
